Holy shit. Did that just happen? Did the world really just flip me upside down and back again? Did I really speak those dirty words? This anonymity thing is so fucking hot! I can be however slutty I want and it doesn’t matter! I don’t have to worry about this little tryst ending up in the papers or on some online gossip website. Nobody is going to be looking for Lila, the little tart with dark hair and hazel eyes. Nope, only Evan cares about her.

And truthfully, that’s all I really want right now…to be the center of his world, at least for the next few deliciously toe-curling hours. Although, it’s hard for me to imagine how he can possibly outdo himself the next time, and with any luck, the time after that.

I fling an arm over my eyes, letting out a breathless giggle. “Where’d you learn to do all that?”

Evan smirks and rakes a hand through his hair before lowering himself next to me on the board. “I went to Catholic school.”

“Of course. That explains everything.” I trail my fingertips down his large bicep, tracing each ridge and ripple of his muscle and then over every inch of his tattoos. “Why couldn’t we have met a week ago? Why did it have to be on our last day?”

“Come on, you’re just saying that because you wanted to get more surf time in, and I’m the only one who was able to get you to stand on that board.”

“True, I would’ve liked to have taken full advantage of your surfing expertise.”

“Is that all I’m good for?” He snickers, the dimple in his cheek deepening. “My ability to get you vertical?”

“Actually, I’m more interested in your abilities while in the horizontal position.”

“I have lots of tricks I’m sure you’ll appreciate.”

“I can’t wait to experience them.” I should be freezing. I’m naked and wet, and there is a chill in the air. But his half-hooded gaze makes my blood simmer as it courses through my body.

A strong arm snakes around my waist, pulling me close. He laces the fingers of his free hand with mine and stares at me with such intensity, it’s almost frightening. It’s a look that makes me want to tell him things, to come clean, to air my secret. But that’s fucking crazy. I know I can’t. I have too much to lose, and protecting myself at all costs is the biggest priority.

His eyes flicker with something other than pure carnal lust. And it scares the hell out of me because I can see everything so clearly in that moment. A pang in my chest reminds me I’m on borrowed time disguised as someone as fictional as every other character I’ve ever played. Fantasy can never become reality. It’s why I have a job. People want to live out the dream, so they do it vicariously through me. I’m just a portal to their perceived fantasies. Lila is a portal to mine.

My body shudders from a chill, despite the smoldering gaze pinning me to the board.
